Barking Child & Family Health Centre

Barking Town Centre Child and Family Centre provides a mix of health and Local Authority services and a one-stop-shop for all services relating to children and families. It is placed in a key location at the heart of the town centre as part of an award winning regeneration project.

Working in partnership with Southern Housing Group, high quality, eco friendly residential accommodation was built above the health centre, which met the Ecohomes ‘Very Good’ standard.

The scheme generates 20% of the buildings energy needs and 30% of its heat requirements through renewable energy measures. Passive solar design features have also been incorporated, such as the use of trees for shading. This exceeds the planning obligations and reflects the gbpartnerships commitment to continuous improvement in the area.

This scheme provides not only a cornerstone for the town’s regeneration but will also deliver a lasting legacy of better service provision for the local community.

Harold Hill Health Centre

Harold Hill Health Centre is a shining example of forward thinking in the delivery of Primary Care, contributing to the regeneration of an area of high deprivation. The centre was built on the site of the previous health centre, which had become gradually less and less fit for purpose with rooms falling below HBN guidelines and offering a limited amount of services.

The  building houses the original services from the previous building, plus an additional GP practice, new children’s services, an anti-coagulation clinic, purpose built facilities for podiatry and has allowed for the provision of services that were previously only available at local hospitals.

Following the opening of the new health centre, BDH were commissioned to refurbish an unused section into a new pharmacy. This included an innovative machine, which provides a centralised unit of production for dispensing medicines in the local area.
